Ruthin 60 Prenton 5

Ruthin travelled to Prenton, Wirrall with a 21-man squad for their first pre-season friendly.  The Prenton ground doubles as a golf driving range and a set of goal posts had been taken down to allow use as a driving range and not replaced in time for the match so the game was played without conversions or penalty kicks.  Nevertheless Ruthin scored 60 points against Prenton’s 5 in a competent display of open rugby.  The game was played in three 25 minute periods.  In the first period Ruthin scored 35 points with tries from Shay Owen, Josh Wilson (3), Ben Syme, Pete Harrison and Callum Bennett. In the second period a further 15 points with tries from Deian Lloyd, Harri Morgan and Huw Parry and in the third period two more tries both from Josh Wilson.  Prenton scored their only try in the third period.  Despite the difference in scores the Blues had to work hard in defence in the third period to keep out the home side who were playing with more confidence.  Ruthin’s next pre-season friendly is at home against Llangollen on Thursday 21 August KO 7:30pm.
